What is Liberty Church?
Liberty Church is the name that we use to refer to our gathering as the members of His body. Whoever we are, wherever we are, if we are indeed the members of His body, then we stand in the true liberty of Jesus Christ. Thus it is fitting for our gathering to be called Liberty Church.
This distance gathering is not meant to replace the local church relationship where God may have planted you in your own community. Nothing can fully substitute the spiritual growth and maturity that can be gained through a healthy local church that God has planted. However, those are so few and far between these days. Who can find one? Our fellowship is to help fill a great void of such local gatherings, and to help fill a great famine of the Word of the Lord in our land. It is an ongoing spiritual fellowship of His followers scattered throughout America and around the world for each one's edification and His glory. We are a New Testament gathering, seeking to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. The veil that was present through the law of Moses was taken away in Christ; and now we stand in the liberty that Christ gives!
II Corinthians 3:14-18
(14) But their minds [the religiously hardened] were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ.
(15) But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.
(16) Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
(17) Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
(18) But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Galatians 5:1-6
(1) Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
(2) Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing.
(3) And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law.
(4) You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.
(5) For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
(6) For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
I BELIEVE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD PUT THIS GATHERING IN MY HEART
The Spirit of the Lord put this gathering in my heart just a few months ago as I continued to agonize over the troubled state of the body of Christ - so many sheep guided by false shepherds, and a religious ideology that has quenched His Spirit completely. In the midst of a great spiritual crisis in the land, and a long-term famine of the Word of the Lord, I perceived that the Spirit was leading me to minister to His flock through His grace-gifts in us this way.
I realize that complete submission to the flow of the Holy Spirit among us is not easy, even when we are all in the same room; but in our concern for you, and in submission to Him, we have added this measure of faith to our ministry.
For the most part, at least to begin with, viewers will be observing us as we worship around the piano and as I share the Word; but it is truly our desire for many to be able to exercise their gift so that others can be built up by them, too. We will start with what we can do now, and improve in this area of mutual participation as we go forward by the Spirit.
Until we are able to expand our interaction, you will be enriched by simply joining us in prayer and in song and by opening your Bibles to study along with us. A FURTHER EXPLANATION OF INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPATION
The Spirit of the Lord is given to each one for participating in worship according to the measure of his or her gift as He leads [Rom. 12, I Cor. 12, Eph. 4]. That kind of worship is what all of us should desire and cultivate. However, at this moment in time the body of Christ is also in desperate need of a full, strong dose of truth through biblical teaching.
With the spiritual climate that prevails today, if anyone just speaks at will, we will likely end up with a confused mix of religious influences that would render us as useless as those religious circles from which we all desire to escape! Obviously, that would defeat the Spirit's intent.
A quenching of the Spirit can come, not only through domineering shepherds, but also through a bunch of loose sheep. What we need most is to go back to the foundation and build up again, so that as we grow healthy together, we can also begin to speak soundly as the Spirit gives utterance. This sound Spiritual understanding will come best by hearing the Word taught by one whom the Spirit has prepared for this time. There may be any number of us that He has prepared for teaching in this critical hour. He is obviously using me to get us started in the right direction.
The last thing I want to do is to dominate but someone must lead, and God does establish leadership; and allowing whomever to do or say whatever, without the proper authentication of the Spirit's unction to do so, would introduce a myriad of dangers to the body. I have seen it happen for decades. We must start where we are and allow the Spirit to grow us in our ability to interact as He would enable us. We want to allow Him to begin sharing as He would through whomever He would, even today!
